So I was on my PC same as ever and all of a sudden it powers down and wont boot. I gave it 10 mins and tried again and it booted, gave me a CPU FAN ERROR and then shut down. After extensive testing with removing components, resetting wires and rebuilding the entire system, I figured it was the pump that is broken. I decided to try putting the stock cooler on and it worked. I have an RMA request in with corsair already but I am using the sock cooler with NO thermal compound and have no way of attaining it for a while. It idles around 50 Celsius. What would be the best course of action in my situation?

Solution
Looks like another H80i GT.

Unfortunately most of these coolers only have a run for so long before they get replaced with a different model.

Having one extra point of failure does not help all in one coolers. I mean a fan fails on a cooler most people do not give it another thought and slap something else on and try to get it replaced.

It may lead to more posts about all in ones because when they fail you have to wait(get angry and post :) ), while many air coolers can hold out with any old fan(to at least keep a system moving along).

It does suck that the H80i's seem to fail more often than one would expect(more scary is that I have one too.). My gaming system is used so little that mine may outlast the system.
You need some thermal paste ASAP!!!

I would also email corsair and tell them you want the same cooler back because if you had a original H80i and they don't have it in stock they may ship you a H80i GT which is a downgrade IMO.

Oh, I have not heard much about the GT, all I really know is the aesthetic difference which I think looks better but won't matter in a closed case without a window, I should research that downgrade thing. Thankyou for the heads up!

EDIT: So after doing some reading and looking at some benchmarks, The GT outperforms the H80i on max fan speed, but gets outperformed on every other quieter setting. Those fans run at nearly 2500RPM max and I have heard them on full and do not like it. I definitely need to clear this up with corsair over which model I get, again thank you for this.

Its worse than you think. Look at their forums...
Lots of complains of the GT units sounding like refrigerators
Complains that the fans cannot be fine tuned controlled like the H80i. Take a look at this thread http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=138882&highlight=fan+speed the fan speed is from 1200RPM to 2700RPM.
The GT units cannot individually control 4 fans, only 2
And I don't even want to touch on the topic of where they placed the Corsair Link USB port on the CPU water block.............SMH

The refrigerator thing is a serious issue.

The fan control is not because I HATE software controlled fans with a passion, especially for the CPU. Whenever you open a even a simple browser is ramps up the usage so the fans with their hysteresis that never seem to change go wild and nearly deafen you. So even with my H80i i put both of the fans on to a PWM Y-splitter and hooked them up to my NZXT Sentry 3. I have all of my fans running off of it so I can fine tune the percentage or set it to auto, which never happens.

The USB port on the H80i is terribly placed I don't see how it could get worse 😀 . It is on the side that is basically touching the rad. So after about 10 mins of trying to get it I disassembled the whole thing. Plugged the USB in, then reinstalled the unit.

Thank you for all of this great info though. I will clear this up with Corsair ASAP.

My H80i fans are controlled by my board as well I had tweaked the H80i settings in software at first and it even seemed to work without the USB cable after being setup, but I trust my board to be smarter with the fan speeds(and is better at telling me if a fan fails). My board can also control 3 pin fans on some headers.

I am certainly not pushing the H80i I have with the fans rarely passing 1200rpm(they are Gentle Typhoon fans, not the stock ones.)

I have heard the gentle typhoons are great fans, not pushing 1200 rpm is pretty quiet for radiator fans. What kind of temps are you getting with those speeds?

I made a bit of a mistake it was not passing 1300-1400(Game load, not prime95). My GPU was not passing 1200(Gentle Typhoon too).

My exact setup is a NF P14 on the inside of the rad and a AP15 on the outside. The video card has an AP 15 on the inside of the LQ310 rad.

This was a test in a 23c room done before playing games.

My peak voltage and speed are not quite accurate, The cpu is set to 4400 and no higher.

To be honest I have this cooler setup because of the smaller case I have(My H80i pump has been VERY quiet, while the LQ310 not so much, but it is better with a slight voltage drop).

Wow 49 Celsius max is pretty great especially running your fans that low. I should look in those fans as when I was running the stock fans at around 1700 RPM, which at those speeds the fans are on par with a plane taking off. I was hitting 50 Celsius, that is with an overclocked FX-6300 at 1.45V.

Well, it has happened and there is nothing I can do.

Hello Evan,

We regret to inform you that the CW-9060008-WW is currently out of stock. We will be replacing this unit with the CW-9060017-WW. If you have any questions regarding your replacement, please reply back on this ticket. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I will be receiving my H80i GT in the mail soon enough and all I can hope is that is properly cools my CPU, and that is does not make my PC sound like a refrigerator. On the positive side I at least will have some cooling in my computer that isn't a stock fan on a puny heatsink without thermal paste. Ugh just hearing that makes me cringe. I asked if I could wait for the old model to be back in stock and am waiting on a response.

Update: Well before they even responded they shipped the GT so lets hope it isnt terrible. At least I like the design :/

If I were you, I would buy a H80i from Newegg or Amazon and sell the H80iGT.

Is it really that bad??? I will definitely look in to the option but if it will cost me too time and money than I will just live with the GT. Maybe I will invest in some Noctua or gently typhoons to improve the performance. As a side note would you recommend a push-pull and in what direction?

I do not think Noctua fans will improve performance(the stock fans are quite powerful, but at a cost of lots of noise), but they will improve noise levels.

Please note many of the gentle typhoons are not PWM(the higher speed ones can be modded to PWM and some of the newer 3rd party(scythe no longer imports them) ones are coming that way) so not all boards will control them well.

I can not comment on what will be better, but in the end a large air cooler tends to be best as it has no pump to fail.

Unless overclocked, The 6300's should not run THAT hot anyway.

Oh its overclocked quite a bit, the stock speeds are 3.5GHz and I still haven't found my chips limit and I had it at 4.6 before the pump failed. I was thinking of raising it some more but most games hardly rely on the CPU and for the extra heat/power draw it wasn't worth it.

My H80i also failed yesterday. Corsair said they don't have a replacement in stock until 2 weeks, and that replacement is a CW-9060017-WW. This unit looks different than my original unit. I'm starting to think not to go back with the Corsair cooler. I'm seeing a lot of failures on the web. Are you getting the same unit or a different one from Corsair?

My H80i GT is actually doing a lot better than I thought. The pump noise is audible but just enough that I really am not bothered and is drowned out by the Windforce cooler on my G1 970. It is cooling really well with temps never going above ~55 under load on an 4.8GHz FX-6300. I hope it does not fail me and if it does it may be time for an air cooler. At least until I do a full upgrade to Intel and do a custom loop in the build.

Ya this one is a bit more audible but has actually come down in loudness, that or I have just tuned it out or it's being drowned out by the other things in the case.
