H80i thermal paste

While installing the H80i the cover came off the heatsink and got my thumbprint on the thermal paste already there. As the paste was so thin it's hard to see how much I removed. What shouldI do? Put a small blob of thermal paste at the centre of my thumbprint or clear everything off and re-thermal?

Safest bet is remove it completely and re-apply with the pea method.

Although I am pretty sure the bit you might have removed will not be a problem at all.

May as well just clear it off and redo it. Make sure to use strong isopropyl alcohol and some form of lint-free, non-abrasive wipe. I'd suggest coffee filters, since those are something you may already have lying around.

I suppose it would depend on the paste. I always use it. Especially for paste that's been sitting there for so long, it becomes a permanent fixture. Or if it's something like IC Diamond paste. That stuff almost requires a jackhammer to remove...
