Hi,

As I was browsing the web for a motherboard for my home server I found this problem: nearly all motherboards only have Windows 8.1/8/7 in their supported OS lists.

While I know I should be fine, since I will install only one OS in the machine so no secure boot headache. Most Linux OS should be compatible with UEFI, etc...

However I still want to know if anybody has experience installing any popular Linux Server distribution/FreeNAS/BSD on an H97 motherboard? Please let me know who you go with it.

BTW I am not going for a server motherboard because it costs too much and my OCD will force me to buy ECC and buffered memory sticks which adds even more...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

hi
i am planning to buy asus h97 m-e and core i5 4460 and i want to use xubuntu. let me know if u r facing any incompatibility.

I ended up with Gigabyte GA-H97N-WIFI and i5-4460. Everything went well until I run Plex, it crashed and reported hardware error everything I tried to play video. The trouble shooting was a long story, in short, at the end they replaced my CPU and everything has been good ever since.

i bought asus H97 M-E . installed xubuntu 14 but can't see the grub menu. how do i get grub menu?
