Hacking a Printer

Since I am aware that several electronic devises can be hacked to give them
more features I was wondering if this is possible with printers. I have a
Canon Pixma IP3000 which produces great results. What I find however is
that even though I have paper that will fit into the printer that's twice
the length,(but same width) as normal I can't print this size because the
printer doesn't allow for custom printing.

Thanks in advance

I think you will find it will allow custom size in everything but
'borderless printing'. Fair question though - it would be nice to have the
borderless option for more than just set sizes.

Yes, Custom paper sizes up to 23" in length should be possible via the
driver, but not for borderless.
The limitation on the borderless is due to the placement of over-spray pads
in the printer that catch the ink that misses the edge during borderless
print. To allow borderless on custom would be difficult without getting over
spray all over the rollers.
