It's not really all that surprising. If someone had enough forsight, they might have predicted this when the futuremark 2003 thing was going on. Then the benchmark with TombRaider, and then Halo. Finally this. I wonder if this is enough proof for all the Nvidiots out there.


I hope for the sake of competition that the nv 40 is a whole new core, cuase quite simply, the nv 30/35 sucks.

I hadnt seen the HL2 benchies before though...
OUCH man they hurt.
Especially the one of the Ti4600 spanking the 5900 Ultra. (admittedly in DX8... but thats still pretty sad)

So I'm probably actually better off with a Ti4200 than I would be with an FX 5600 Ultra, considering that the Ti4600 whoops the 5900 Ultra in DX8? I'm also wondering if Detonator 50 will offer performance boosts for GeForce4 Ti owners. It sucks that they have to take image qualtity away though, but if it means the difference between playable and unplayable, I guess I would be best off swallowing the bitter pill(ie. Detonator 50), right?

For price yeah.
THe 4200/4600 is still a decent card that i greatly respect.
I hope for Nvidia's sake that the much anticipated and hyped Det 50's really DO boost performance.... <b>WITHOUT</b> the sneaky image quality tricks we have seen of late.

I know everyone will be looking long and hard for reduced IQ when they come out.

problem is by looks of it det 50 is gonna have IQ issues


otherwise why would gabe newell be so pissed about Nvidia releasing them and telling hardware reviewers to ignore the det 50 drivers?
 
What I'm asking though, is will the previous generations of nviida product get any performanc boosts with the new detonator or will it be limited to the FX line of cards?

probably limited to FX

because Nvidia doesnt really have a huge problem in the DX8 settings and looks like the GF4s will perform quite nicely there

they are suffering in the high end DX9 shaders so thats were they will do all the optimising

though they might also have some general optimisations that effect everything

its possible, but unlikely.
They Do focus the drivers on the most uptodate cards.

Um LHG, the FX5900 does not get spanked by a Ti4600 in DX8, you must've thought the inferior FPS of it was from a DX8 source but it was the DX9 result.

Ahh just go for the 9800PRO already. You know how to mod, right? Simply do some and you can get a flashy heatsink on it later.

I kinda wish I would have gone for the 9600 Pros or something. Oh well, I guess its too late now, or is it?
