My state has just imposed a LAW prohibiting using a cell phone when driving(just what needed more laws). I've found dozens of bluetooth car speakerphones but I have no way to know which ones work reliably or have good mic and sound quality.

What I'm looking for is a device which is voice activated, has a degree of noise cancellation and uses my andriod speech recognition to recognize and initiate commands (call, hang-up, ignore, etc.). I'd prefer to avoid Alexa or Siri. The ability to play music would be nice but is not a major concern.

My budget is $50 give or take.

Any recommendations to narrow the field is appreciated

I use the one built into the car's sound system, and have been the last decade. Last car I had that didn't have it built in was made in 2003. Else I could use the one built into my GPS (sat-nav) bought in 2014.

yah a radio replacement is probably the most complete idea. but the $50 budget is likely to hold you back for sure. no matter what the solution.

i bought my dad one of these for his old truck. he only wanted to be able to talk on the phone hands free and stream audio from his phone. works great for that though it does not do the rest of what you are asking for.

back before every card had bluetooth a simple bt earpiece was the answer and also worked great. some of them even responded to voice commands, but they were usually about $70. no clue what they offer now and they cost but might also be an option for you.

i am not sure your expectations and what $50 can get you are aligned that much. mainly it's the voice command and controlling of your phone, that will be the hard to find piece in your budget. plenty of simple bt options out there though if you can get along with manually hitting dial on the phone.
