As the title says, when I try to boot from either my Windows 7 or Ubuntu discs, my system hangs somewhere along the process. It isn't locking up, both Windows and Ubuntu act as if they are trying to load, but get nowhere. I have been successful with Ubuntu twice, but it takes a little while.
I recently was having an issue that I posted about, seemingly a defective sata controller - Asus M4A89GTD Pro possible sata controller issue
I replaced my motherboard, I am now running a Gigabyte 990F-XA-UD5, and I also replaced my PSU (not because it was defective, but because Newegg had a good sale on OCZ fully modular PSUs, and my Corsair wasn't even semi-modular) to an OCZ 1000W ZX series.
I have looked through the bios for anything that stood out as being the cause but found nothing. I also checked all my voltages and they were fine. All sata devices are showing up in bios, but when I get into Ubuntu, I am not able to see my hard drive.
Usually somewhere along the process, the activity light on my disc drive simply stops and the computer no longer tries to access the disc. I have tried ejecting and closing the tray while this was happening to no avail. One thing I have noticed is that even while in the middle of trying to boot from a disc, my hard drive activity light will light up just like I would expect if I were running off of it.
Any ideas on what might be going on and what I can do to fix it? I am kind of at a loss here as to what is going on.
