Hi! I'm new to this forum but i've seen alot of posts on heat issue. I just want to put in my experience too. I have an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ CPU on ASUS A7V8X-X M/B. I was having heat problem for a long time.

I just switched my CPU Heatsink from the original one which came with my processor to Vantec Aeroflow VA4-C7040 and my heat level is now 10C-20C lower.

My CPU used to be about 67C in normal use (casing closed) and hits 80C when the CPU is at 100% utilization (starts beeping). I use this freeware called HeavyLoad from http://www.jam-software.com/software.html
to push my cpu to 100%.
Now, when i switched to my new heatsink, normal use temp is about 53C and hits 65C when the CPU is at 100%.

Anyone having CPU heat problem should try changing their cooler with a better one. It helped me, im sure it will help u guys too :)

i agree with flanders, methinks your case airflow is poor. the new cooler was a big step, but now go all the way and toss in some more fans...

if you have all the fans the case can hold then i suggest improving ventages. cut the stamped sheet metal grates out and replace with nice wire grates that you can pick up for a buck at newegg.(BTW, buying 10 at a time is cheaper than 4)

you could alos expand the front bevel vent, the on on the bottom, with a dremel. and if the compy's on carpet, place it on something hard like wood or plexy glass(mine are on plexy glass, its less aparant.)

I've got a book of matches,
I've got a can of kerosene,
I've got some bright ideas involving you and me.

Uh yeah..... Those stock HSFs are only good for modding an old agp card. Slap a descent copper hsf and have good case irrigation and you got it made!!!!!

It is true thats its still kinda hot. I'm planning to add another fan aswell. My room has an average temp of 29C. So i dont think my CPU can get any cooler than 45C-50C.
Thanks for your suggestions Tavelkyosoba :)

>>EDIT<<
Forgot to mention i used Artic Silver for my thermal paste.

no no, i do mean less aparant. you can still see the plexyglass, its just less obnoxious than a piece of wood or what have you.

thats good, AS reduces thermal resitance to the heatsink wich will lower cpu temps 2 or 3 degrees.

I just got a retail AMD 2500+ Barton for a customer, stock HSF is pretty good. Runs virtually silent, ~3000RPM fan, copper block on base of HSF. System temp between 44 - 48C.

It's warm-ish in the UK at the moment. Outside I'd guess it's lower to mid twenties celsius.

I know that hsf well. It works great as long as you dont OC and have good irrigation.

Is it the unit with the round copper plug? Those ones are made by AVC. They sell the same heatsink with faster fans. I would love to get one, but cant find them locally. They are available in Europe I hear. They are supposed to be quieter and cooler than the Vantec aeroflow.

Bah, I hit 60C on my Mobile Barton 2500+ @ 2.5GHz (166 x 15) on 1.9V cooled with a Thermaltake Silent Booster under full Prime95 load, 48C idle.

Your temps are fine now, I would'nt be worried unless you plan on OCing, the TIM (Thermal Interface Material) on your stock HSF prolly accounted for at least 5C, AMD should stop sticking that awefull stuff on their HSF IMHO...

BTW addiarmadar, how did you managed to get that beast all the way over 2.4GHz on 1.7V ? Watercooling ?

my athlon 2600+ runs at 38c and 40c under load, im using an alpha cooler and 4 case fans. oh and it is overclocked too, im running at 180 fsb, susposed to be at 166, so yours is way to hot.

assumption is the mother of all *uckups

You lucky bloke! The last one I got had that dumb metal plate screwed to the bottom! Not even worth using Artic Silver on! :frown:

I'm just using the stock AMD heatsink that came with my retail 2500+ Barton and its overclocked to 3200+. Room temp stays around 21C/70F, MB temp is 23C/73F, and CPU is 48C/118F at idle, 55C/131F at load and takes a while to get that hot. It only runs about 2 degrees cooler at stock speeds.

I pumped my A64 to full 1.8Vcore, while it never passes 32-33C, and my room temp's about 28.
