I just bought an IBM Ultrastar 36Z15 (SCSI, 15K, 36.7 GB). This drives are known to run very hot, so I would appreciate recommendations on a hard drive cooler which provides adequate cooling with minimum noise.

I have some Vantec ultimate hard drive coolers. They work very well with some older 10KRPM, and 7200KRPM IBM ultrastars I have.

I really like the heat sink design and mounting as it is a top-mounted heat sink which makes sense from a thermal flow perspective. The little fans seemed pretty loud to me. I just pulled off the loud little fans and replaced them with a big quiet fan that outperforms the litte ones. Also these things require a 5 1/4 inch slots so you need a big case that has an extra slot.

The disk will be installed in a 5.25 inch bay, so there should be no space problems.
What's the size of the big fan you used to replace the small fans that come with the Vantec ultimate hard drive cooler?

I just used a standard low RPM 80mm fan. I have 2 drives setup with these coolers in my comp right now so that the fan hangs in front of both of them, in basically the same position that the smaller fans occupied before I removed them.
