hard disk drive...

Hey, SHRIDHAR ASODEKAR!

Check Disk Management and if the drive is listed there.
I'd also check the connections again, re-seat the cables because something might have gotten loose there.
Do you hear the drive spin up at all?
I'd suggest to even try connecting that HDD with a different SATA cable, 'cause this one might be faulty.

Keep me posted. I hope this helps!

thanks for reply,, i had checked in disk management also, no disk appear, only main disk appear...
ya drive is spining..... i also did do that in different sata cable...
Actually my 2nd hdd is not working in laptop and i purchased new one for lappy....
and i want to make as portable hdd ....

SHRIDHAR, if the drive is not working on either machine and it is a new one, I'd suggest to contact the HDD manufacturer for further assistance and RMA it to get a replacement.
As for turning the drive into an external, it's pretty easy.
All you need to do is get an external enclosure compatible with the form factor of your HDD. (I'm guessing 2.5" drive, since you mentioned that you've used it in your laptop). If your laptop and/or desktop have USB 3.0 ports, I'd suggest to choose the external interface of the enclosure to be USB 3.0 as well. This way you will get 10 times faster speed than USB 2.0.
You can simply google external HDD enclosures and I'm sure you will find exactly what you need. :)

Hope I helped!

Was it working on the laptop before moving it to the desktop?
If it's not seen anywhere, I'd suggest to contact the tech support of the HDD manufacturer.
They should be able to provide you with further instructions how to proceed.
But if it's not detected anywhere and you've already tried different SATA ports, SATA cables, different computer even and it's still not being recognized, then there's not much left that you can do by yourself.
Actually the only thing left to try is to put the drive in a dock station or use SATA-to-USB cable to try plugging it externally to the computer and see if it gets detected anywhere.
Check the model and serial number on the drive on your manufacturer's website to see if it's still under warranty, you could RMA it and get a replacement.

Good luck!
