My 500GB HDD shows only 340GB capacity

500GB hdd have capacity of 465GB
open diskmanagement to see whether any "unallocated volume" is present.
If there is, it means in your case 125gb unallocated storage space is available
You can create a new partition or extend an existing partition with the unallocated volume
