Hello
How could I merge two different hard disks into one? The aim is to extend one hard disk to the other, without formatting.

Sincerely,
E.

First of all, you should always back up your data before you temper with the HDD that stores it. I'd recommend you to use an external drive or some other storage device that will allow you to copy all of your files there.
Unfortunately, in order to create a Spanned volume (combining multiple hard drives into one storage space) a.ka. JBOD, you'd need to reformat all the HDDs in the process and there's no way around that. Another downside is the fact that such a configuration would pose a greater threat for the data stored on it. For example, if one of the HDDs fails, you'd lose the files stored on all of the volumes with very low chances of data recovery even from a professional data recovery...

Your other option would be to create a Redundant Array of Independent Disks a.k.a. RAID with the HDDs, but that again would require you to reformat them in order to set it up. Moreover, this storage configuration requires you to have identical HDDs with the same capacity and speed. Otherwise, you'd be limited to the slower and to the smaller HDD. I'd recommend you to read through the wiki about RAID and all its levels: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID

If you plan to do this simply because you want to have all your data in place, I don't think it's worth risking it. Even if you go for it, you should do regular backups in order to prevent data loss.

Hope I was helpful. Keep me posted if you have more questions! :)
