Hello all,

I dropped my laptop by mistake. Looks like hard disk is dislodged. It shows up Failed hard disk while
booting and I can see that it is not showing up the hard disk name either. After that I get this error.
0200: Failure fixed disk 0. I am really scared if anything else is wrong. I know nothing is wrong. Still
I am concerned about my data more than anything. Before taking it to the repair guy I want to be sure
what is wrong so that he doesn't take me for a ride.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards,
Chitra

Solution
If it is a simple case of dislodging HDD, follow these steps.
In most cases, the laptop HDD is pretty easy to access. Look at the underside of your laptop and you can see a panel with a symbol of three discs stacked atop each other. Open that panel only with the help of screwdriver and you will find a metal cage like thing holding your hard disk. carefully unscrew the cage , take out your HD carefully as it will be plugged to the laptop. Just unplug the socket by pulling it gently, horizontally and plug it in again. Reassemble your laptop and boot it. If it starts normally, good, Otherwise, seek professional help.
Until you take your laptop to a 'repair guy' no one can be certain what is wrong. You dropped the laptop - it could be simply the cable/connection to the laptop is loose/disconnected, you could have broken the harddrive a they don't generally take falls well, you could have broken something else (connector on the motherboard) that makes it look like the hard drive,. with the info we have and not able to look at the laptop, here we can only guess.
