So,today, after installing a new PSU (a 600W Raidmax - the RX600AF ) I noticed a strange thing - my hard drive started to make strange scratching/tearing noise. Now,I'm sure it was way less loud before the PSU change, but I really doubt it has anything to do with it (I changed PSU's on my PC a number of times and never had a single problem). Here's the video of the sound I'm talking about (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPk5qwch47g). The HDD works perfectly normal so far, though, but the sound is really irritating and I'm starting to worry that it's about to fail. The HDD is Hitachi 500 GB SCSI (not sure about the model though).

You can check the health status of your hard drive by using Crystal Disk Info or similar free programs. It is possible that the new PSU is not providing good power - you should be able to check the voltages in your BIOS.

I checked the video - I have had hard drives make similar noises when working hard and they continued to work.

Yeah, from the video, it sounds like your drive is just running hard.

I've had the same thing happen in the past, transfer a drive to new build with a new psu and then for whatever reason it sounded louder than in the old rig. The drive continued to work just fine until it eventually died.

Just keep an ear out for the dreaded click of death or the constant sound of the drive powering up/powering down when trying to access files and data. Those are signs that the drive is about to take a dump on you.

As always, make sure you have proper back-ups of any important files and data.

It does actually become louder when I,for example, start Chrome and browse through folders in explorer...the scratching does seem to be related to data write/read. I also checked my voltages and they seem fine,as well as drive's health.
