hard disk showing as CD-Rom

I have "WD my passport HDD"...which was working fine on my win7, but now its showing me as "CD drive (I) " as i open "my computer".... i opened disk management..and there its showing me in CD Rom..

plz help to fix this...

I'm sorry to hear about your scare with the WD My Passport! However, I don't think you have anything to worry about with this. I'd suggest to go to Disk Management and see if the drive shows up there. Make sure that it is online.
Then I'd recommend changing the drive letter assigned to the drive and see if that will resolve the issue.

so as the most propable solution is partition and formatting ...
do you have any important files and folder inside?
Did you try to run you HDD in any other computer?

yes i had installed the drivers...
on other pc ,showing the same prblm....
have imp doc n files,....
hoping to get some solutions....

Can you please attempt to test the drive using Data LifeGuard Diagnostics utility?

Hopefully it will get the drive detected. If not, @i7Baby is right and you should consider contacting our tech support to send your RMA request. They should be able to provide you with a replacement, if the drive is still in warranty.

my hdd is under warranty...i am from india....n i bought this hdd fro UAE...but i dont have receipt....but on wd website its showing me under warranty...can i still go for RMA...???
 


Don't worry about the receipt.
Just go to our WD Support Portal here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=FJv3GE
Register your product and apply for RMA.
OR you can also directly contact our tech support in India (their contact information should be in the link I provided you with in my previous post), explain your WD HDD issues and ask for details on the whole RMA procedure.

thankyou all 4ur supports......
and 1 more think which i noticed is- when i plugged my hdd in laptop, its spinning (which is fine) n led light blinking....
bt when as soon as its start showing as CD-DRIVE(I) in "MY COMPUTER", after about 5sec it stops spinning, but led light is still blinking....
and its show safely remove option in right bottom corner of pc....

any information regarding this...???
