So basically my hard disk was fine up until yesterday, today when i booted up my pc it took longer than it usually does and it was also feeling super sluggish. I didnt give it much attention then, but i realized something was extremely long when i launched apex legends.
First of all, it took way too long to load. And then it was lagging at the home screen. I tried getting into a match and it was just unplayable. My fps kept dropping from 100 to 5 every 2-3 seconds. That has never been the case up until today. Then I realized something was wrong with my PC. So I tried running csgo, and the condition was kind of the same there too, but not as worse. It was stuttery as hell, but fps drops werent as frequent as apex. It was dropping to around 30 fps from 150 every 10 seconds (which is still unplayable).
When I tried a few other games i found the same issue with different intensities. It was after that when I checked my Disk usage just to find out it was sitting at 70-80% even at idle state. I opened the windows defragger and analyzed my drives. I was shocked to see each of them at 15-25% fragmented state, cuz i manually defrag them at the end of every month (I have the automatic weekly defragmentation turned off).
So naturally I defragged all the drives, and it took around 2 hours which is longer than it usually takes. I was hoping the issue to be fixed after this defragmentation but, but the issues still persisted. Tho valorant for some reason ran a lot better after the defragmentation, with only a few stutters at the start of a game. The game which ran the worse was apex, maybe cuz it uses a lot of disk while playing(50-60 Megabits/sec). Opening and closing files/windows is a lot better after the defragmentation.

So all I wanted to know is what has caused this to happen and what are the possible fixes.
Thanks!
