Hard disk start/stop count too high and stuck

I'm using a 500GB as my primary storage.Almost personal things saved in this HDD.Few days back i checked with sentinental,it shows the start/stop count 65535.It's not changing.Stuck at 65535.Few weeks back it was about 6k or nearly.Now this hike beating my heart up.Is my HDD dying or any issue ? need to backup ASAP..? please let me know ..!!

65535 is 0xFFFF, which is the cap for the 2 bytes that is likely used to report that value. This is likely a glitch since you said it shot up just in a few days. Not sure whether that glitch is from the drive's firmware or your software, though I would lean towards the latter.

Considering that start/stop count is more of an informational item and not directly indicative of any issues, I wouldn't worry to much about it. It's also pretty unlikely that the drive actually had that many start/stop events (essentially going in and out of low power/standby states) in just a couple of days.

I can't really see a screenshot of the SMART data. (in case you've posted one)

Apart from that, I would agree with rkzhao. Your HDD is most probably fine. You need to pay attention to the bad sectors and read/write error rate related rows in the SMART report.

Yet, you should always back up the important data, as mechanical drives could just fail.
