Hard disk warranty expiration

I checked the status of my external hard drive . It was written " In limited warranty " . What does that mean ? And also what does expiration date mean ? Is this the expiration of warranty period ?

Warranties vary with the manufacturer and local laws regarding warranties.

Overall, the drive probably had some broader warranty and then once past some certain amount of time, the coverage was reduced: E.g.: orignal warranty may have covered parts and labor.

Limite warranty may only be parts and no labor. And/or only certain parts perhaps.

Generally most warranties have lots of loop holes and exclusions that makes getting warranty repairs or replacements much more difficult than the corresponding advertising suggests...

The only way to know for sure is to read the "fine print" within the warranty agreement. You may need to read it several times.

Another option is to visit the manufacturer's web site. Check warranty information there and also read the manufacturer's FAQs and Forums.

"Limited warranty" means that the warranty is "limited" to the terms laid out in the warranty documentation.

"Limits" might be...
'it's 3 years, not forever'
'it's limited to replacing the drive, not your data'
'This warranty does not cover abuse' (meaning if you throw it down the stairs and it fails, this warranty does not cover that)
