When i boot up my PC the HD makes a clicking noise. It wont stop unless i down-load something or it starts to spin up. it has been clicking now for about 6-7 min, it just now stopped. would a de-frag help? It just makes me worried that my HD is going to fail sometime. If a HD does stop working, could i get my storage off of it? I almost forgot, its a Toshiba 1tb.

Solution
Sounds like failure is coming (and no, defraging wont prevent that); my question would be, why would you wait until failure to attempt a data recovery. If your drive is working at the moment, now would be the time to migrate data to a new form of media.

Well i didn't know that it was anything serious. Thanks for informing me. Should i get a new internal HD or an external?
Could i get the data off it, if it does go bad? My uncle works in data recovery and i could get him to take a look at it. Do you think that he will be able to fix it?

Sorry to post again but i found the real problem. It wasn't my HD that was clicking, it was the fan right below it. So if anyone has the same problem. Don't jump to conclusions, check all the hardware first. And a pro-tip, don't buy $4 cheap fans that claim that their "long lasting lifetime bearings". :)
