Hard drive crashed Macbook Pro - Need new drive

So I bought a Macbook pro in 2012 for school, my school will fix the macbooks hard drive if I purchase a hard drive for the macbook, whats the best drive around 500gb of space that I can buy? Wasnt sure if there were certain dimensions of a hard drive or anything i needed to buy.

I could really use some help.

Dimensions do matter. It most likely is a 2.5" drive, but see if the school can tell you that.

If you want an SSD: Samsung is the most well known and the best. Pro for best performance, EVO for good performance and not breaking the bank

If you want a HDD: Look towards Western Digital. They have a low failure rate and aren't too pricey.
