Hard Drive docking station meant for all Hard Drives only working with larger Desktop Hard Drives and not smaller Laptop ones?

Macbook recently died completely, assuming it's the Logicboard and it's toast. Did everything to make sure it was definitely the Logicboard. Started using a Windows Laptop until I can get a new Mac, and the only thing bugging me was all my files missing, since I never backed all of them up like I should have done, never worrying about my Mac dying completely. Purchased a Docking Station that is supposed to work with both larger 3.0 Hard Drives from Desktops, and smaller 2.0 Laptop Hard Drives. Even watched videos of the exact same Docking station working with both size Hard Drives. Was completely confident that this was going to work, and I'd retrieve all my precious pictures and videos and music files from my Mac's Hard Drive. When I go to plug it in with my Mac Hard Drive on the Windows Laptop, it doesn't show right up like it did on the video. I try everything and it just doesn't work. Eventually I dig out the Hard Drive of an old Desktop, just to see if anything would work, and it worked perfectly. Saw all the files just like I was supposed to, and plugged the Laptop Hard Drive back in and it still isn't working properly.

Now I'm just really worried that either when my Mac crashed it ruined my Hard Drive, so I'm actually not going to ever get any of my files back, or I've done something messing with it that ruined it. I'm thinking about buying another External Hard Drive just for 2.0 Hard Drives, because the Toaster looking one looks like it's meant for the bigger ones, because they just fit perfectly and the small ones wobble around and don't look right. Kind of hoping that it is the Docking Station not working right with the smaller Hard Drive, or maybe it's the computer which doesn't work right with a lot of stuff, and when I get a new one it'll work. Is there any way to know for sure if all my files are gone? Could it be some other problem and all my files are on there like I'm hoping they are? I couldn't find anything addressing this. I'm just scared everything is gone, need hope, lol.

Just saying, this should be in the Storage section not memory(Memory is RAM btw and isnt related to a hard disk or drive.)

Doubt this is the hard drive, other wise you would have seen something on the screen. Give it a shot. And most hard drives have the same connected and dont worry about the wobbling(I wouldnt) if it connects it should be stable enough for you to move files. Like I connected a new Hard drive in my laptop without the caddy(case) and it has alot of extra space around it and doesnt wobble .

for $10 you can buy plastic "external hard drive enclosures" for 2.5" drives. and use that. same principle as a docking station but probably cheaper. zero wobble too.

you may not have had it plugged in correctly. i'd verify that first.
