i have recently installed windows on a new ssd for my computer. This was done while i was running windows on another hard drive on the same computer. Windows was installed correctly and was working. On start up of the computer i had to select which copy of windows 7 i wanted to boot from. I checked both copies worked. I then removed the older hard drive expecting the new ssd to just auto boot windows, however i was wrong it wont boot. However it is under the hard drives and is top of the list for booting when i press del on start up. I cant think why it wont work and just wondered if anyone on here had any ideas, thanks in advance guys!

Ok, best I can do without being able to make a disk is to put the first drive back in so you can boot into windows. Then download EasyBCD (just the free version) and you'll be able to change your boot partition/disk, should be under Repair in EasyBCD.

This shouldn't change anything on the first disk, just add a bootloader to the 2nd disk. Then remove the HDD and try and boot with the SSD again.

Unfortunately i didnt use a disk, i used an ISO image downloaded to install windows 7 on the ssd.

Ok, well what OS did you install? Does the computer have a CD-R on it? what MB do you have (so we can see if you can boot from USB if needed)? Do you still have access to the HDD with windows on it?

I installed windows 7 ultimate, im afraid it doesnt have a CD-R, on the hard drive? i have 2 ssd installed 120gb and 240gb i have a portable hard drive with the iso image on it. yeah i still have access it to the hard drive with windows on it.

Thank you so much! I shall try it now :)

Just tried it, i still get the option to use the other disk to start up when i turn my pc on however when i click on it obviously it wont work because its not conncected, is there anyway to remove this from the start up? as it might get a bit annoying eventually. Thanks for all your help by the way!

Hey,

I had similar issues using an OEM licence of Win8.1; it needed me to install from the original DVD, not an ISO on USB...

Can you give any more detail about how you installed to the second drive?

He seemed to have a ISO on the HDD and used that to install on the SSD. That's why it would keep the bootloader on the HDD and add the SSD to the bootloader for a dual boot.

The other option is if you're simply wanting to clone the HDD to the SSD is to just.. clone it using samsung magician or something.

@ Jake,
Sorry to have cut in; it seems my feed to Tom's has some lag. Maybe there should be a postbag here where people can send their machines and install DVDs... It took a lot of patience with MS to get Win8 installed on my new SSD with a fresh licence; I have a photo somewhere of Frankenstein's new PC wired to my old machine's DVD with sparks and everything.

@ elliotwillis
Have you burned the ISO onto DVD/CD yet?

@benurmston
He doesn't have a CD-R on the computer apperently. That was going to be my first idea was to just burn the ISO or you can even DL and burn just the repair disk software, that's all he'd need to run. Without a disk though I had a hard time finding a work around.
