Hard drive failing and cant pass chkdsk..

hi, i'm getting an error from microsoft that says I should backup by information becuase The HD is failing.
i ran chkdsk using "run as administrator" and saw this:

Also. I ran it as a scheduled task next time i restarted and it took much longer but froze at 60% on Step 5/5.
It was looping around some point (22,_ _ 1,066/ 55,__________) for a few minutes. Then the looping sound went away.


What else can i do?

1. Start by backing up your DATA.

2. Download "AcriveKillDisk" Run it and remove everything on the drive.

3. Re-format and re install and see chkdsk. Some times this works on a "dying" drive, other times it dosen't.

Run "chkdsk /F" and follow the instructions.

When you run CHKDSK /f it will fix the errors.
But since there was a warning that the HD is failing I would stop using it before if fails completely.
I would get a new HD and back-up my data as soon as possible.

Double check that the hard drive is failing with other programs such as Speedfan.

On HDTUNE i ran an error checking and everything says its good. No damaged.

Under device manager it says that its working properly.

Yeah, i've ran chkdsk three times and it keeps freezing at 59-60%. That must be where the bad sector is. In windows it says that there are errors but cannot fix in read-only mode. Bah.

any drive that has bad sectors in this day and age is BAD.

there was a day when up to 10% bad sectors was acceptable, but not anymore.. anyone remember entering bad sector maps into MFM controllers??

Your running chkdsk wrong. WIndows cannot scan the boot drive while it is running, henc ethe use of the /f switch. /f should ask you if you want to reboot, and at reboot it will run correctly (and probably with no issues).

nono. i did do that. it restarts then goes into the chkddsk. On the second try, it found and replaced a bad sector with a movie file

Run the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostics and RMA it.

Definitely get the data you want to keep off it now.
Run makers software, check for errors.

MI TB that's why I was so happy to see IDE drives come out.
