Have no info on hard drives but i read about running a S.M.A.R.T

The health status is: Caution

Temp: 43C

Everything seems to be good besides this

C5 Current Pending Sector Count Current: 100 Worst: 100 Threshold: 0

Raw Vaule: 000000000056.

Just yesterday the raw value was 000000000001 I ran Chkdsk /r /f last night and now it is a raw value of 56. So just wondering what this means and what i have to do to fix this? I heard i need to reallocate those sectors but im totally new to this and would love some help!

It is a Samsung Laptop i am on whether that limits anything.

HD: ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB 1000.2GB

Thanks for your help!

Once it starts getting bad sectors, there's nothing else that can save it !! There is probably mechanical failure and number of bad sectors just keeps on growing.
If it was just one time occurrence you could re-partition around bad sectors leaving them in un-allocated space.
The fact you got 55 bad sectors in 1 day would worry me as this is normally one of the signs of a failing hard drive.

If you run chkdsk it should map out the bad sectors and try and move the data to a good sector.

Personally I would get all my important data backed up first, run chkdsk and do the same in a week and see if you have anymore bad sectors.

Thankyou sir! Is that just the standard chkdsk? Or do i need the /r or /f ?

First and most importantly, back up you data. I can't stress this enough. If you have anything important on that disk it needs to be backed up. That disk is probably not going to last long. I would suggest replacing it.

For sure, i agree! Lucky for me it has nothing of importance that i need, so im willing to just use it til it dies. I would like for it to last as long as possible as im not too keen on buying a new laptop in the recent future.

You don't need to replace the whole laptop. Just the hard drive should be replaced and shouldn't be too expensive.

Ok after running another Chkdsk /f /r, it is now at 58 raw current sectors, so it has gone up by 2. Is there anything else i can try to reallocate these? Or do i just replace the hard drive as gergguy said!?

First things first have you backed up your data from this drive? If not, then I strongly suggest you back it up or you may lose everything.

You can continue to use the drive but it is only a matter of time before it becomes unusable and you may experience data loss and slowness before it dies on you.

Your best bet is to replace the drive as soon as you can.

I have nothing that needs to be backed up. So i am okay with using it for general things. It is now on 90 Pending Sectors, took around 20minutes after turning it on for me to be able to use it. Starting to run a lot slower, the Temperature goes up to 50°c with running small applications.

Chkdsk doesnt seem to do anything, is there anyway i can Reallocate these Pending Sectors? Or just buy a new HD?
