I know this probably gets asked a lot, but I'm in a pickle. My Seagate HDD is no longer being recognized by Windows 7 but it is being recognized in BIOS and disk management.

I saw a lot of posts saying to format the disk, reallocate it and it will be found again, problem is - I can't. It's one of my major drives and being the baddie that I am, I hardly have the drive backed up... Is there some way I can get into the drive and get my important files so I can then format? I see disk docking stations at stores and was wondering if those will work for me as well?

I pretty much will do whatever it takes - it's that important.

how does disk management show it.

does it show a partition ( it will say fat or ntfs and the size, also will have a fat blue bar)? if so you might just need to right click on it, change drive letter, and give it a letter.

can you provide a screen shot of what disk mang. shows? if not can you provide any info you can from this screen

Sorry for the late response, I was at work...

So I booted disk managment when I got home from work and got this: http://imgur.com/tjoU0xn
I'm afraid to touch anything...

I just closed out and took a better screen shot.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!! It's finding everything I needed to back up! It's 1TB of files however so it's gonna take a while to back it up, but I'm pretty much crying with how great this is. Thank you so much!

You got lucky this time! Put a good backup strategy in place 😉

I don't know what is going on but this happened to me and several other users recently. Partitions disappeared and disk showed uninitialized. All seemed to tie to either a Windows 10 upgrade or an update on a Windows 10 machine. Anyone know if there is something known that might be causing this?

I saw that as well. It was where I was reading all the steps to get the drive back, but not the files. So I had to ask. I was stupid desperate.
Weird thing is, I have Windows 7. Don't think I will update till I get a whole new rig as well. I think it's just my hard drives time... Which makes me uber sad... :c
So I have no idea, I wish I could tell you.
