Hi there,

This is about a 3TB Samsung HDD. With a GPT Partition Table and 1 NTFS Partition. No RAID.

One of my internal hard drives suddenly stopped working. Here is what happened:

- When I was trying to access a file on the drive, it wouldn't load and the Windows Explorer was freezing.

- I immediately shut down the PC

- The PC couldn't be booted in ANY way. No Safemode, no Windows CD, no Mac (USB) or Linux (USB).

- So, I disconnected the drive. Everything boots, mounts and loads as normal.

- Now, I tried to connect the drive via USB 3.0, by putting it in an external enclosure. Again, as soon as I connect the drive the Windows Explorer would immediately freeze. I also tried Paragon Partition Manager, which also freezes during load. As soon as I disconnect the drive, everything unfreezes and programs run normally.

So, it seems to me that I can't access the drive via SATA or USB. However, I would like to recover my files.

Any ideas?

Solution
Boot backup/restore/cloning utility usb or dvd,
[if no cd/dvd device in laptop, if affordable, get a usb cd/dvd device] and:
-- if possible, make a one-pass DIY clone onto an external HD; or
-- if possible, make a one-pass DIY full image of the hard-drive onto any affordable and reliable external media
OR
-- wait patiently, in whichever forum you're in, for expert advice and help; or
-- if affordable, take it to a local computer fix-it place/specialist and let him/her help you; or
-- if affordable, if possible, send the hard-drive to a data recovery place

If this doesn't work, you might have to send it to a data recovery specialist.
