I recently built my new computer. I want to move my old files from the old computer to the new one but the old computer has the old type of hard drive connection. I was thinking I could transfer the files onto my external hdd and then move them onto the new computer. Would this work? What is the best way to go about this?

Hi there mparker,

The easiest way to transfer the files is to just use some external HDD.
Also, there is a possibility that your new MOBO has some IDE ports as well. You can check that out. In case it has, you can attach it internally.

Do you just want to copy files or do you want to copy the entire drive from one PC to another? If you just want to transfer files, then the external hard drive is a great job of migrating files.

FYI, the old connection is called IDE and the new one is called SATA.
