Hard drive help

My friend wanted to use his 500gb hdd from his laptop but he already had a 1tb hdd in his hard drive with Windows 10 (the laptop hdd has windows 8). Now when he tries to start up the computer it goes to the windows 8 hard drive and not his original one. We changed the boot order in the bios and everything. Now when he takes out the laptop HDD the computer turns on but only shows a black screen with a blinking white line at the top. We even tried switching around the cables and that hasn’t worked. Any suggestions?

This may help. My guess is this is some sort of UEFI related error.

He can’t becuase that’s the only windows computer he has

I wish I could help more, But having used Linux for so long, I have only had to come into contact with UEFI once.
