Hard drive issue

Using Windows XP pro, the hard drive is showing in the Bios when pc boots
up, but then a message disc boot failure and no further

Any suggestions on what the problem is and advice on how to overcome would
be appreciated

A fail hard drive may still be detected and show up in the bios. Doesn't
mean that it will work properly!

The fact that the BIOS recognizes the presence of the hard drive
doesn't mean that the hard drive isn't defective. After checking to
ensure that the hard drive's connections haven't worked loose, and that
the IDE controller hasn't failed, try replacing the hard drive.

Tom, it could be that you have a floppy in the flop drive and it's set
as first boot device in Bios. Or, it could be a failed
hard drive if you havent done anything unusual or it could be a loose
connection or defective ribbon cable or power
connector.

Repair console from XP boot CD. Repair boot sector. If unsuccessful in
booting again, try repair mbr.
