Since two days ago my PC has been freezing randomly with the HDD solid red which had me thinking it has to be the HDD giving up since it's so old, so I installed another old one I had spare and the same thing happened freezing no mouse movement or key input with the light solid red after about 45 minutes of installing Windows 7.

I'm at a loss, it doesn't seem to be anything else temps are super cool and normal during gaming and editing PSU looks normal, although it has froze when using Sony Vegas and uploading to Youtube and sometimes when just moving folders and files around so it does seem random.

I've been itching to finally make the move to an SSD which I may be forced to now anyway but worried that it could be something else.

Build - FX 8350 - R9 290x - M5A99X EVO R2.0 - PSU TX850M - The HDD's were a Seagate 750GB and a hitachi 1000GB.

It has 6 reallocated sectors counts which isn't a huge deal. This can go up to a few hundred before it really starts to slow down a hard drive but i could just be in the right place to slow it down a bit.

Also leave Task manager open to the Performance tab while you do stuff and see if CPU/Memory usage spikes when that happens.

hitachi brand drives aren't that bad. I would trust them over seagate's.

Also when was the last time windows are reloaded if ever?

I do have a feeling it isn't my HDD as it happened on both and the last few lock ups early yesterday the HDD light was off, it could be my RAM I took them out and swapped them around just to re seat them and I have gone the longest so far without a lock up since it started, task manager would be hard to check because when it freezes I can't move the mouse and the keys don't respond.

I will leave task manager open when I'm away and if it does freeze I will be able to check it, cheers.
