hi,

when I attach my hard drive in dell inspiron laptop it gives error at the time of booting saying No Hard drive etc.
But when I plug the same device as external drive to my desktop I can browse the drive.
Not sure why is that.
I had data previously in it but now I have backed up and format and removed the partition on the drive. Still same problem continues

Any help will be great.
Thanks
Wismer

Hi Wismer, & welcome to Tom's Hardware!

There are some differences with removable drives in how they are recognized by laptops vs destops.
What is the Make, Model#, size, type (SATA, PATA), connector cabling (USB, SATA, 1394) etc of the removable drive?

Since you just repartitioned and reformatted it, let's take a look and see how it is set up.

Connect it to your desktop, go to Disk Management, and in the lower graphical area, you will see it listed, probably the last row underneath the internal drives of the desktop.

Please post all the data in that row, both from the Disk Status column and the Volume Status column under the cadet blue band.

That way we can see how it is set up, or should be set up.
