I've had this PC for about 9 months now, and since a couple of weeks ago, I've heard this light rattle noise in the HDD, like in an old PC. I'm not 100% sure if its new or not though because I am not that observant of sounds. It usually makes the noise right after hitting the power button, and when shutting down. It also seems to do it a little when loading up big games, such as GTA 5.

I just wanted to know if this is normal, OK, or something I should worry about.

well to me if your 100% sure its coming from your hard drive [I assume its a platter type and not a ssd] then no its not normal

you can try a hard drive test like WD data life guard or seagates seatool and check it but if its a mechanical like the platters sticking or motor or a bearing or the arm going bad may not pick that up

me, I play it safe the sorry back up and replace if I was sure it was coming from in the drive [opinion]

check the hdd using programs such ass HDDtune to see the health of your drive. if it's fine then, you could invest on some noise dampening rubber HDD mounting bracket.
it's most likely the sound of the head moving around seeking the datas inside your hdd. most enterprise rated HDD such as WD caviar black series makes those sounds, and the rubber bracket helps it a bit.

maybe, maybe i'm just lucky in those 4 years, but hddtune and smart doesnt give any warning up until now. but it wont matter much now anyway since last week i already backup all off them and preparing to move to all ssd setup. maybe i got lucky on my call. it's the posters call now.

it comes down to a judgment call on you on what I said above -- I cant tell you due its not my stuff stored and used on it ?

all you can do is what you feel is right in the end

I gave a link with a wd rep to message and get his opinion ? maybe a seagate rep around here as well to try ??
