is it normal for a hard drive to make a humming noise all the time ?
drive is WD40EZRZ i took it out of a mybook enclosure and installed internally.
its only a few months old and i have ran wd extended tests 2x and it passed both.
my pc didnt make any noise before with only ssd's installed and its probably not the most sound dampening case (enthoo pro).

i have sensitive hearing and i can hear it in a quiet room about 13 ft away from it ,should i be worried ?
is it just normal for spinning drives to have a hum ?

thanks

Solution
The noise mainly gets conducted through the screws into the case, then the case rattles/vibrates. Cases built to reduce noise usually don't have the screw actually touch the case; they're surrounded by an O-ring of rubber.
ok this is weird because i went inside case and stuffed cut up beer cozie pieces (rubbery thing that keeps a beer can cold) all around hdd and screwed case back up and it was worse.. then i took the side panel off and it was quiet ..put side panel back on and its still quiet ..im at a loss cause everything seems to be tight but i guess something somewhere isnt .i guess ill wait till it makes noise again then try stuffing more cozie pieces everywhere

mine has the little o ring around the screws... im wondering if maybe something was just getting kinked up and rubbing side panel near the hdd causing vibration noise transferred from the hdd. i just hope it stays quiet. but i think your right something in the case may not have o rings on the screws and might be loose and if it happens again ill just have to go over everything ..thanks
