So, my previous motherboard was causing problems, crashing every once in a while until it finally stopped booting at all. I decided to go with a Gigabyte z170mx-gaming5 after seeing good reviews and get a new cpu and ram.
After setting everything back up and booting, my secondary data drive wasn't being found (Seagate Barracuda 2000gb).
I initially tried swapping what SATA ports the cables went into, then swapping the cables with the working SSD (both SATA and power). After none of that worked I finally forced my roommate to let me use his known-good computer to see if it would show up. Unfortunately, it still wouldn't show up, neither in windows or even the BIOS.
It doesn't seem like it is spinning up at all while plugged in and the computer turned on.
At this point, is there anything else I can try?
Otherwise, is there a recommendation for who/where to go to try and recover the data from it? Some of the more important stuff was backed up, but there are a lot of less important things that I would like to be able to recover.
