Hard Drive not reporting right info

HD storage going down. I have taken off 10 gm off. HD storage space is not changing at all. I ran 5 HD programs to check HD out. drive is good no eres or bad news at all. If I put a a file on that is 500kb,then HD will show that 500kb drop in space. So I take off the 500kb file and HD space will not come back. Have been at this for a week now. On PC for 15+years now..

Did you empty the recycle bin

try running ccleaner and defragler on the drive. on hdtune look at the health tab for any warnings.

Hi there Tall Paul,

You can start the troubleshooting process with scanning your system with some anti virus/malware tool.
After that, you can run disk cleanup as well as delete temporary files. You can check out your System Restore settings as well.

Took off about 22gb,and HD did not move..in reporting. (same) I put a small file on and it went down again in storage.
HD,WD,320gb, PC,Only reports files going on, and not coming off. I did not know it was doing this..I had a lot of updates put on about a month ago ?? * MSN, XP, updates has been off for years.

You delete the data from your recycle bin as well right?
You can also try to reboot the system and check whether it shows the correctly.

My Defrag programs stop working at about 92 GB, now at 46 GB yesterday. This is how I found out I had a problem. I ran my Defrag program yesterday from Win XP, after it stopped after a few minutes, but it did not Defrag anything, the report I got back said I had, Free space = 243 GB, Percent free space = 82 %..
Went to (MY computer) It said 46 gb, File manger,and other programs for H Drive have been and are still on the low side .. time to clean and reinstall and hope that is the end of it. Thanks for UR help
