have you tried another sata controller?
is controller set to raid or ahci?

wonder if its been made into a storage space, which is essentially software raid
look in settings/system/storage
Click on Manage Storage Spaces under More Storage Settings
is anything listed here? If its not a storage space, it should show nothing but an option to create one if you don't.

Open command prompt (with admin rights)
type diskpart and press enter
type list disk and press enter
this shows all drives available, DVD/USB and hdd, is hdd listed here?

if it is, try formatting it (unless its got info on drive you want to save, then don't do the next 2 lines))
in diskpart, type Select disk X - where X is the number of the hdd you want to wipe, change X to that number and press enter
once the drive you want to wipe is chosen, type Clean

this might make it show in disk management
