Hey, I'm currently using Windows 7 and when I turned on my computer today it said something about needing to scan my hard drive. I let it begin but after 30 minutes I decided to turn my computer off because I had to get onto it to reply to an important email. When I rebooted it, I checked the hard drive and its now empty. In disk management it shows up and says its active and healthy, However, if I try to drag a file onto it, a window pops up saying "could not find this item, this is no longer allocated in Computer. Verify the items location and try again."

Is there any way to get my files back?

Hi there Aberexis,

If the data is not overwritten in some way, I guess you should be able to retrieve at least some of the data with the help of data recovery tools. You can check this thread out: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html
Also, it may be a good idea to test the drive with a brand specific testing tool. The results may show you what is wrong with it.

Hope this will help,
