Hard drive not working properly grinding weirdly

Hi, several days ago when i turned on my pc my hard drive made this weird noise and loaded up the loading into windows screen incredibly slow like 5 minutes. so i unplugged the sata cable and plugged it back in and it worked fine.

Today about 5 hours after using my pc i got a grinding sound coming from my hard drive that lasted for about 2 minutes and then just went.

Whats happened any ideas thanks

have you run the manufacturers diagnostics on the drive? as hard drive age they get noisy, noise is normal longer boots are not.

Run WD Lifeguard or Seagate Seatools depending on what kind of drive you have. I am not sure about Hitatchi or Toshiba. Chances are that your hard drive is dying. If bad sectors are found, back up your data immediately. Then consider replacing your drive. You probably should anyway. As far as new drives are concerned consider getting a SSD and/or a WD Blue, (or Black if you have a lot of stuff.)
