Hi everyone, someone is selling a 500GB hard drive with a fresh install of Windows 7 on it. I've built a couple PCs in the past, and even done upgrades here and there so I may already be getting my question answered, but can you take that hard drive and put it in a new PC build as the main drive and the OS would work fine?

Solution
The short answer is no.

Most all versions of windows 7 are OEM as are all Windows licenses on OEM computers.
This means the OS is tied to the motherboard it was installed to. Using this install on a different computer is a violation of license agreement and is thus illegal.

Moving past the windows license issue. If the drive was installed on an intel and you have an amd (or vice versa) this will automatically not work.
There is also the issue of drivers if the original computer and your computer have a massive difference in hardware.
