Hard Drive Partition

Disclaimer: Not that computer savvy.

Have Windows-7 64bit

C drive: has 718GB/891GB FREE SPACE
D drive: has no room at all out of the 40GB

Everything and I mean everything automatically gets saved into D (listed as "Image Backup") ... Even if I install programs in C manually the temporary files or something not sure technical term tries to store in D and then I start getting error. Windows won't update. Every time I shut down it tries to update but rinses and repeats every time. Solution without reinstalling windows?

Sounds like someone create a junction point or symbolic link so that your d: drive is being used as a part of c:
If that is the case you will need to remove the link and move all the affected files back to c:
