Hard drive problem after install of power supply

Installed a brand new Evga 850G2 power supply and my computer stopped working. I first notice something odd when i got to the regular boot screen to find that it was taking almost two minutes more than usual. Then it gives me map cant be found. After a few looks i tried to see if it worked with the old power supply, but it does the same thing. So i then read up i assume it could be my hard drive. Problem is that it was the one with my OS. To make sure i looked at my bios and low and behold it can sense that the hard drive is there. I then thought maybe the cables were broken so i grabbed a few spares and even then it doesn't work. So i"m just wondering if i have to buy a new drive and OS which is something i really don't want to do.

Your HDD might be failing. Check with some tools. You can make a bootable usb pendrive with some tools to check.

Hi there Runixflame,

I believe you have a Win installation CD right? There's no need to buy one.

Apart from that, you can either work with DOS software tools, as Inkiad suggested, or attach the drive as a secondary one to a working machine and run some testing.

If there is data stored on the drive, you can run some data recovery tool and test the drive with a brand specific tool afterwards. The results should show what is wrong with the drive.

I don't have another desktop to run test on it thou. Also I'm unsure about the OS key because its not my current OS

So I can confirm that the drive is not spinning and it will not register any power input. However I have crucial thing on it that i need . is there a way I can get the information off of it to another hard drive?

Go to a computer repair shop. They might have a data recovery service. Or find a professional data recovery service. They cost quite a lot so if you do not have something very important it is not feasible.

have you tried switching the power cable on the working drive to the non working drive(only switch at the hard drive don't touch the cable plug on the psu). maybe there's a bad port on your new power supply

If you've tried using different cables/ports and the HDD is not even spinning up. You will need to look for some professional help as Inkiad suggested.
Most of the HDD manufacturers have their own data recovery services or have some trusted partners. You can check that out.
