I have a problem with one of my hard drives. It's a slave hard drive not the master that windows is on. That hard drive is an (ssd) This is an h drive. I have windows 7 64 bit Home premium I have a z77 x ud5h Gigabyte Board. Core 17 3rd Gen processor. 16 gb Memory. I have 4 hard drives in my system. Well I noticed that my computer was slow Just yesterday. So I decided to run a scan disk on the h drive which is a sata 3 2tb. So I ran the scan disk option that said fix file system automaticlly. So I had to schedule the next disk on on system restart so I did that and restarted the computer. The sacn on reboot went fine. but at the end of the scan just before it was finished said that the second boot sector is Unwritable. So I went back into windows and I googled the error and it said that a format of the hard drive would fix the issue. So I Moved all of the data off of this hard drive onto the g drive and I went to control panel administrative tools, then to system management then disk management. I right clicked the h drive which was ntfs and I clicked format Now the instructions told me to do a full format so I did the full format with the allocation size left at default. I unchecked the disk compression option as well the instructions said to do that. So I formatted the drive It took a few hours. The after it was done it said drive could not be formatted. So when I went into the Disk mangement section I noticed the file system for the h drive the one that I thought I formatted was set to raw. So I'm assuming that's why I can't format it, Because it has to be an ntfs file system or fat 16 or fat 32 before I format it. And I do not know how to get it from raw to ntfs. Tried the Ease US Data Recovery software and ran a scan of the disk. I don't think it was doing a format. It did however run a scan of the drive and of course after found the ntfs drive and said recoverable. So I highlighted the drive and clicked the recover button and it said do not save to the same drive so I saved it to the g drive. I knew there was no data on the drive cause I moved all the data to another drive, before I did the format in windows.It still did not work though. now when I go into my computer of windows 7 the h drive does not even show up. And I thought that the reason for that is because the drive was just not assigned a letter. so I went into disk management, Up top where it says volume layout type file system status the drive is not listed there either. Down at the bottom however it is.it say on the left disk 1 basic1863.02gb and then underneath that it says online. on the right it says It has a black strip or border and says 1863.02gb Unallocated. with no drive letter. when I right clcik it has for options New simple volume and properties. There is no option to assign a drive letter and path. So when I right click and go to properties and I click on the volumes tab it says. disk, is disk 1 type is basic, status is online.partition style master boot record (MBR) Capacity 907728 MB Unallocated is the same and reserved space is 0. So right now even as we speak I'm running Ease Us Partition master free edition latest version. I chose the option to wipe the partition data and it's doing that right now. it's at operation 2 of 5. It shows the drive in the 3rd party software as ntfs.for partition it's h for file system its ntfs Caity 1.82 tb.used 122.66 MB unused 1.82 tb status none and type logical. above the h there is an i drive a second partition to the h drive. and the file system is ntfs. capacity i 7.81 mb.used 2.44 mb. Unused 5.38 mb status none type primary. it's disk 2 mbr So I don't know how to convert the drive back to ntfs from raw. I'm assuming that's why windows reports the drive as unsucessful when I go to format it because it can't change it back to ntfs. or any file system that can be formatted.
