Here's the situation, my friend gave me a brand new WD Purple 1TB, thought i should give it a try on my PC but it seems to read a lot slower when i install an OS on it (Windows 8.1 64Bit) sometimes it even freeze for like a minute or so, i know the WD Purple was meant for DVR surveillance system but it doesn't seem to affect anything on a 32Bit OS.

Is this normal or are there any suggestion?

My specs: AMD FX 6300
Asus M5A97 R2.0
2 Kingston HyperX 8GB
MSI Radeon R9 270

Hi there nOrange,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. :(

Have you tested the drive? In case you haven't, you can test it with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool(both tests): http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=rGGPKj
If there is something wrong with it, it may be a good idea to back up the data stored on it.

Apart from that, you can try something simple as just attaching the drive with different cables(both SATA and power ones) to a different SATA port.
You can observe Resource Monitor during these freezes. What seems to be using the drive?

Let me know how this goes,
