Hard Drive Question

Hello, I have researched this question many times, and I have looked everywhere. I need a straight answer to this question, with no maybes or if's. Can I use my old hard drive with windows 7 on it, in a new build with a new mobo, psu, gpu, ram, etc. Here is my current build, please tell me if my hard drive will work with this.

The answer is no. Your old drive is expecting to see your old motherboard and cpu.

You will have to do a fresh installation of Windows on your Barracuda in order to use it with your new motherboard and cpu.

How would I do that if the hard drive came pre loaded with windows 7 on it when i bought the computer?
 


Yes, that's what I originally suggested by a fresh install. I apologize for not been clear.
 


Not quite accurate. You can prep a hardware neutral version of windows, though doing so can be beyond the scope of some folks technical ability.

*this only works with win 7 professional, enterprise, or ultimate. Home users are SOL.
