Hard drive recently stopped working

My secondary hard drive shows up correctly and everything but when I transfer files it begins to hang up and stop writing completely. I've tried different hard drives, different cables, and different sata ports with no avail. Does this mean something went wrong with my motherboard? Any suggestions?

It sounds like your drive is dying.
What diagnostics have you run on it?

I've not run any diagnostics tests on it. But I did try a completely new hard drive and ran into the exact same issue
