Could I get a hard drive to replace my Seagate ST2000DM001, around 2TB, looking for one with a good lifespan, any recommendations? Preferably that I do not have to change any of the cables

My one is about to die and I am certain about it

I have the same seagate as you do only 1 tb and 3 tb. Both work good for me, but WD Blue is very good alternative. Also popular as you noticed.

That's a laptop hard drive. Not a good idea to put one of those into a desktop.

David, if you want realy reliable hard drive, go with Hitachi Ultrastar. This is enterprice grade hard drive and Hitachi has lowest rates of failure.

If I got the western digital, could I use the same cables that are already in my PC?

Yes, sata cables are all the same.

I bought another ST200DM001, but I want to transfer some data, what cables do I need to buy to plug this HDD into my computer? Thank you

Did you build your computer yourself? You should have spare cables. Is your power suply modular or non-modular? Most power peripherel cables have several connections on one cable.

First cable you need is SATA data cable. You should have extra in your motherboard box.

Second cable is power cable. You can either use 4pin peripherel power cable or more recent sata power cable. If your power supply is non-modular you can find it in a bunch of cables coming out of your power supply. If your power supply is modular you should look for spares in power supply packaging. Also as i said before you can find multiple connection cables already connected to your current hard drive. If you have that you can connect new hard drive to the same cable.
