Question Hard drive spinning down over and over ?

I have a WD Blue hard drive and it's always sounded a bit squeaky when it spins down. But starting last night, it started doing it about once per minute. I'm pretty sure that's not good for it and also it sounds annoying. I tried running a test with seatools just in case but it didn't say anything special.
This hard drive is only around half a year old and I use it just to back up files with Windows' built in back up tools.

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Include PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition (original, new, refurbished, used).

Disk drive(s): make, model, capacity, how full.

Could be a PSU/power related problem.

Look in Reliability History and Event Viewer. Either one or both may be capturing some error codes, warnings, or simply informational events that correspond to with the spin up and spin down pattern.

Note: remember that anything you do could cause loss of data. Check that your backups are indeed recoverable and readable.
