[SOLVED] hard drive stopped working after upgrading power supply

hard drive stopped working after upgrading from a corsair cx550m to an EVGA 750 watt b3. SSD remains functional on same sata cord as the Hard drive. I have tried switching the motherboard sata ports and the same happens, ssd remains functional and hard drive is not. Hard drive is not visible in BIOS either. The hard drive is a western digital blue 1 terabyte.

So this is where you call me an idiot right? Initially I did not, I kept the corsair sata power cable. I didn't think it would make any difference. Is that the cause of this problem? I eventually changed it over to the new evga cable and still nada.

Also my corsair fans only have one led on one fan that light up, I'm truly confused.

Yes , that is most likely the problem , the cables are not interchangeable. If you use the wrong ones they can fry drives and damage components. The PSU can also be damaged.

I'm assuming my power supply was not damaged. Would i be correct in assuming that? since all my other components work correctly minus the rgb on the fans. I did swap out the mother board and gpu cables but I didnt swap out the sata and peripheral cables. Still weird as my SSD is still working correctly, when it was plugged into the old corsair cables. Is there anything I can do to check to see if my power supply is damaged? Thank you for your quick replies, you're very helpful.

Yes I would say the PSU should be fine. It's a great PSU.

Don't feel bad I have come across this many times. Sometimes it fries everything , other times just one or two components.

Thanks again I really appreciate your help, Safe to assume that the hard drive is fried. Whats your opinion on the fans? They still spin I just have one led lighting up out of the three. I should swap out the peripheral cable asap, right?

Yes , get the correct cables installed promptly. Hard to say about other damage , but is possible.

Those SATA power cables need little labels on them (at both ends!) that say "use only for Brand-A PSU"...

Many poor souls have fried 2-5 drives at one time in similar fashion....(smoke coming from the drive's PCB was a telling symptom!)
