hello everyone,

since i purchased counterfeit sd cards (but to be honest i had a feeling they was fake to begin with) it makes me wonder about hard drives, never had a problem that i am aware of on hard drives but i recently just ordered two white label drives that are supposed to be enterprise class.

so i don't know any specifications of the drive other than whats stated on the amazon page, what i'd like to know is if there is a free program or something like there is for flash and sd cards that can test the drives.

let me know the serial number, model, brand, etc and make sure the drive is healthy and good.

thanks

ryan

I've got triplicate backups too but I still wouldn't touch a refurbished HDD --- I generally don't buy anything that's refurbished if I can afford new.

As for testing - - well even factory-new drives are tested (or at least a sample of them are) but some still arrive DOA at the customer's doorstep - - - so testing in itself is no guarantee of reliability over the long term.

Lets not lose sight of the fact that we aren't talking big money here - - new HDDs are currently way cheaper than they used to be so I don't personally see any financial incentive to risk buying refurbished ones.

Don't buy refurbished HDDs just 'cos others do, even if they are professionals. Decide for yourself like I did.
I bought one refurbished way back when...
Seagate SeaTools will test any brand of hard drive - - shows true capacity, tests drive health etc:

"White Label" drives are drives which have previously failed & have been refurbished for re-sale. I personally wouldn't have anything to do with them - - false economy. My data is too important to trust on one of those.

well i know a lot of it professionals that swear by refurbished stuff since it has be tested to be good. me personally i've never used or bought anything refurbished before.

but there was a lot of good reviews on this seller.

also i am paranoid with my data as well so everything is backed up to multiple spots

I bought one refurbished way back when I got my first PC, it failed within weeks. Enough said.
