Ok. So basically I have a hp 8200 elite sff but it has a 250gb hdd. With windows 10. I want to increase storage by adding 1tb hdd from a pc I don't use anymore. But the 1tb also has windows 10 installed and other software/program stuff.
So what do I do? Can I just plug the second hdd in and use it like that or do I have to like erase it or something.

Solution

You can use the second HDD if you have a sata port available and use it as it is or you can save the data files and format the windows partition on it. If you are only using 1tb hdd as primary, then you need to re install a fresh windows 10 in order for it to run without any issues because it will be running on a new hardware.
So if you are only using the 1tb hdd, before you try to...
You can plug it in as a secondary drive without too much issue, OTHER than possibly mounting it in the case. (According to what derekullo found, this issue is a non-issue.)

If you replace the 250GB drive with it, then you will probably enjoy a reinstall or maybe repair, if Windows 10 will even accept your PCs configuration Or have the joy of the currently supported and installed OS on the HP. Installed apps on the 1TB HDD may, and probably will, have issues running, but the data should have no issues. If there's nothing you want to keep on the 1TB HDD a reformat with or without repartitioning, may not be a bad thing, especially if this drive will never go back.

This is also based on the premise both systems have the same hard drive connections. (SATA specs aside as they will fall back to the fastest common speed. PATA (aka IDE, EIDE), the same.) OR at least the HP system offering interconnectivity for both standards.

So if you are only using the 1tb hdd, before you try to connect 1tb hdd, link your Microsoft account to the Windows 10 digital license on your device now. Later when inserting the 1tb hdd to the hardware, just install a fresh copy of windows and reactivate the windows by using your MS account and install the necessary drivers.
